Head 14. Imports and Exports Department

As a result of the decision to

abandon the prosont arrangement of affixing tax labels on toilet preparations the Committee recommends the reduction of the provision under subhead 13 "Toilet Preparation Labels, Printing" from $90,000 to $30,000 the latter amount being required to meet outstanding accounts.

The effect of this recommendation is to reduce expenditure under this head from $672,957 to 8612,957.

Head 15. Judiciary

The Committee recommends certain minor changes which increases expenditure under this head from $396,704 to $397,722.

Labour Office

The Committee recommends certain minor changes which increases, expenditure under this Head from $155,457 to $156,777.

Hoad 18. Legal Departments

The Committee recommends the appointment of a supernumerary Assistant Crown Solicitor in order to assist in the despatch of accumulated arrears of work in the various branches of the Legal Departments. Certain other minor changes are also recommended and the not cffect is to increase expenditure under this head from $325,403 to $340,473.

Head 19. Medical Department

A discussion took place over the proposal to pay grants-in-aid to the Tung Wah and associated hospitals and the Alice Memorial and affiliated hospitals from the proposed now loan. It was decided that as portions of the grants were properly spent on recurrent expenditure and the remainder on rehabilitation, the sums of $900,000 and $15,000 respectively should be transferred from the loan schedule and charged to recurrent expenditure under Other Charges and the balances left as charges on the new loan.

The proposal to increase the establishment of almoners was discussed at length. It was finally decided to make no alteration to the draft estimates in this respect but that the Honourable Director of Medical Services should be invited to explain the necessity for the extra posts which should not be filled until the matter had been further discussed.
